Sedation Dentistry

Randolph, NJ

Most people don’t look forward to going to the dentist. However, there are many people with dental anxiety who would rather avoid the dentist altogether. This can lead to serious health issues down the road. If you’re a person with dental anxiety, need a tooth extraction, or have had bad dental experiences, consider sedation dentistry at Seidner Dentistry & Associates in Randolph, New Jersey. We offer various different types of sedation to make your experience as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

Why Choose Dentistry With Sedation?

Regardless of the specific causes of your anxiety, sedation dentistry offers major benefits and can help you get through your appointment smoothly. Many patients find that they are happy they can finally get the treatment they need, sometimes in one appointment. If you have any of the following, you might be a good candidate for sedation dentistry:

  • Dental anxiety
  • Fear of needles
  • Difficulty getting numb
  • A strong gag reflex
  • A fear of not being in control
  • Fear of the unknown

Our team will assist you every step of the way. Before your sedation appointment, we will answer all your questions, review your medical history, and address any concerns you may have before moving forward. Ensuring that you’re feeling comfortable is our priority.

Types Of Sedation Dentistry

Seidner Dentistry & Associates can help with dental care. These include:

  • Nitrous oxide (also known as laughing gas) is a mild form of sedation.
  • Conscious sedation dentistry (oral sedation dentistry) – This involves taking a medication by mouth prior to your appointment. Most of our patients are sedated using a drug called triazolam, which is commonly known as Halcion (a sleeping pill). Triazolam is safe and has been used in sedation dentistry since 1970. It offers a higher level of sedation than nitrous oxide.

What To Expect

Your experience will differ depending on the type of sedation you choose. However, you can expect to be completely comfortable. Additionally, you will be:

  • Drowsy and unaware of the time passing
  • Relaxed or asleep while getting the necessary dental work
  • Anxiety-free while being closely monitored

Most patients who receive sedation have little or no memory of the visit but will enjoy a healthy, bright smile following their appointment. We also make sure to complete as many dental procedures as possible in as few appointments as necessary to keep anxiety down even more. Additionally, since conscious sedation dentistry creates such a state of relaxation, there may even be less post-treatment soreness.
